Assaluyeh methanol plan nears completion

TEHRAN, Sept. 25 (MNA) — The Fourth Methanol Plan of Zagros Petrochemical Plant, which is located in the Pars Special Economic Zone (Assaluyeh), is expected to be 97.39 percent completed by the end of October.

With the targeted physical progress, coming to close in some sectors such as engineering and supplies, the project is 93.63 percent complete in construction, installations and operation works, a report released by the plant said on Sunday.

Upon completion, the plant will annually produce some 1,650,000 tons of methanols. The product would be used as solvent in downstream industries, varieties of adhesives, resins, different types of plastics and diesel fuel as well as producing methyl tertiary butyl ether (MTBE) that is a crucial ingredient for augmenting the gasoline octane rating. Dimethyl Ether (DME), another product of methanol dehydrocondensation, is an intermediate product in the methanol-to-gasoline conversion.

Construction work of the Fourth Methanol Plan of the Zagros Petrochemical plant was started in Assaluyeh Special Free Trade Zone in 2001. A German enterprise together with two Iranian companies has been working on the plant.
